Epiphone Electronics Overhaul, Before and After Comparisons

www.planetz.com . In this video, I demonstrate the results of my Epiphone Riviera P93 electronics overhaul. I first play the original Epi setup, then swap in my new electronics, and then replace the pickups with a matched set of new Vintage Vibe Guitars P-90s. The recordings are made with a Rode NT1 large diaphragm mic, placed 4 inches away from and slightly below center of the speaker grill of my Vox VT30 amp. The new electronics include CTS 500k audio taper pots, no-load mod on the tone pot, an Orange Drop .01uF tone cap, all new shielded wire, and a new Switchraft L12A jack. So, if youre wondering what it might sound like if you change out your pots and caps in your guitar, this should be a good example. I was very careful to record the three different combinations all on the same day, with precisely the same setup (same strings, same amp settings, same mic and mic placement). I made every effort to play the same riffs with the pick in the same position over the strings, playing with the same strength. (Alas my skills are not quite exact enough, but I did my best). Megadeth - Holy Wars... The Punishment Due on bass

So many requests for this. I played with a pick just to get tighter. The 16th notes don't really get a lot of tone out of my fingers. This is as close to actual bass part as I've gotten, and I think it's almost exactly right maybe except a few notes here and there. Anyway, I tried a different camera placement to see if I could make this sound any better. Let me know if it sounds better than usual and I may try it again like this in the future.

The challenge was not a result of the equipment, nor the documentation or resources of the Crutchfield staff. The weather this year has been completely different than in years past. As a result many weekends have gone by where Saturday was filled with rain or snow. That's right, snow in Utah in May and June. Complete craziness. We finally were able to get started on the installation. Prior to installation, a quick evaluation was made as to the location of the speakers. Our install location was decided to allow for optimum sound area for all users of the patio. We have two main areas: The eating area and the sitting area. I decided to put a speaker in each of the four corners. This later proved to be a perfect layout decision. The first task was to place the speakers. This was quite simple. I removed the mounting brackets from the Boston Acoustics outdoor speakers. I ventured up on the ladder with my drill, pencil, level and tape measure. With this very small collection of tools, I was able to get my speakers hung straight, and with uniform placement. Next was the decision on location for the speakers for the children. At the playhouse, there are two main activity areas -- the swings and the playhouse -- so it was a very easy decision to make for the location of these speakers. One to accommodate each area ...
